Advice

The NSW SES advises people in the following area(s) to MONITOR CONDITIONS for forecast heavy rainfall, and possible flash flooding:

  • Tibooburra
  • Milparinka
  • Wilcannia
  • White Cliffs
  • Wanaaring
  • Louth
  • Tilpa
Flooding is occurring along the Silver City Highway and surrounding roads. Roads may be closed in multiple points. Check your whole journey before attempting to travel. With rapid, intense rainfall, creeks and waterways can rise quickly, leaving you trapped or in other dangerous situations.

What are we expecting?

The Bureau of Meteorology advises an extremely humid airmass lies over central Australia, focused around a slow-moving tropical low over the southern Northern Territory. A trough extending south of the low is bringing the risk of heavy falls to northwestern parts of NSW, however this feature is likely to weaken during the day today.

HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast about parts of the Upper Western district this morning. Six hour rainfall totals between 30 and 70 mm are likely.

Conditions are expected to ease through the warning area from the middle of the day.

Flood Watches and Warnings are current for the area.

This event may change quickly. NSW SES will monitor the situation and update warnings if the situation changes.

What you need to do:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel, move indoors, bring children and pets with you.
  • Park your car under secure cover and away from trees, powerlines and drains.
  • If safe to do so, secure or put away items, such as outdoor furniture, trampolines and roofing iron that could blow around in strong winds.
  • Grab your emergency kit in case you lose power or need to leave your home.
