What are we expecting?

The Bureau of Meteorology advises a vigorous northwesterly flow is expected to continue over alpine areas during thursday as another cold front approaches. Following the passage of this system, robust westerly winds will result in strengthening winds along the South Coast Ranges to Nowra from late Friday morning.

For alpine areas above 1900 metres: damaging winds averaging 80 to 90 km/h with peak gusts up to 110km/h are likely during Thursday and Friday, easing during Friday afternoon.

For the Snowy Mountains and Brindabellas above 1400 metres: strong winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with damaging wind gusts up to 90 km/h are possible during Thursday and Friday. Winds easing during Friday morning.

For the Snowy Mountains above 1400 metres: blizzard conditions are possible during Thursday and Friday. Blizzard conditions easing during Friday morning.

For the South Coast Ranges and parts of the Illawarra: strong winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with damaging wind gusts of 90 km/h are possible from late Friday morning, easing by the evening.

This event may change quickly. NSW SES will monitor the situation and update warnings if the situation changes.
