NSW SES advises people in the following area(s) to PREPARE NOW for forecast damaging winds:
- Katoomba
- Lithgow
- Oberon
- Wollongong
- Kiama
- Nowra
- Nerriga
- Ulladulla
What are we expecting?
The Bureau of Meteorology advises strong west to northwesterly flow will develop during early Saturday morning ahead of a cold front that will sweep over southern parts of the state during the day. Winds will tend westerly during Saturday evening in the wake of the front.
For parts of the BLUE MOUNTAINS DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts around 100 km/h are forecast to develop around sunrise on Saturday morning.
For the ILLAWARRA, SOUTH COAST and northern parts of the COASTAL RANGES: Strong winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS around 90 km/h are forecast to develop from the late morning.
Winds are expected to ease throughout the warning area late Saturday afternoon or early evening.
This event may change quickly. NSW SES will monitor the situation and update warnings if the situation changes.
What you need to do:
- Trim trees and branches that could potentially fall on your home or property.
- Park your car under secure cover and away from trees, powerlines and drains.
- Secure or put away items, such as outdoor furniture, trampolines and roofing iron that could blow around in strong winds.
- Prepare an emergency kit in case you lose power or need to leave your home.
- Monitor warnings issued by NSW SES on their website, HazardWatch and Facebook pages, the Hazards Near Me mobile app, local radio or television, and by following the latest weather information from the Bureau of Meteorology online.
