Watch and Act

The NSW SES advises people to AVOID THE FOLLOWING AREAS due to current heavy snow, ice and fog:

  • Mt Canobolas
  • Canobolas State Forest
  • Campsites and recreation areas in and around the Mt Canobolas area
Due to this snowfall:
Mount Canobolas is CLOSED to all visitors
Parts of Mount Canobolas Road are closed

Mitchells Way is closed
Parts of Pinnacle Road are closed

You should monitor the situation and avoid the area until further advised. There may be damaged infrastructure and dangerous hazards within the area.

What are we expecting?

The NSW SES advises these weather conditions may cause:

  • Further road closures may occur
  • Trees may be impacted by high winds being experienced

This event may change quickly. NSW SES will monitor the situation and update warnings if the situation changes.

What you need to do:

  • Do not go sightseeing as this may put yourself and others at risk.
  • Obey all signs about road closures and instructions from emergency services.
  • Stay clear of fallen trees, power lines and any damaged buildings.
  • Avoid unnecessary travel. If you do need to travel, plan to avoid potentially snow affected roads and consider different ways to get to where you need to go.
  • Share this information with family, friends, and neighbours.
  • Driving in snow or icy conditions requires a high level of concentration, skill and a lot of patience. Only drive through snow or ice if it is essential.
  • Beware the dangers of black ice when driving or walking on hard surfaces. Reduce your speed and exercise caution.
  • If you become stranded when driving, keep your engine running, put your hazard lights on and remain with the vehicle after calling for help.
